La Dent du Velan

Believe it or not but last Sunday I had my first mountain trip this year. I was thinking hard where I should go, because probably it would be first and the last trip before the snow is coming. I have always wanted to walk up to les Dents du Midi, but since I don’t have training (fitness) for High Mountain this year I choose an easier route; La Dent du Velan close to the French border. I started to walk in the morning from Le Flon, then to beautiful Lake Tanay. The first part is steep and I breathed heavily and was sweet when I arrived to Tanay. Tanay is a kind of place where you read about it from small adventure books, it is beautiful and almost unreal. This morning was stunning; campers had fired up and the smoke stayed just above the lake, the sun was rising and ice-frost in the shadow; JUST MAGIC.

After some photos I continued up to the pass at French border. Like always in Switzerland, when you think you are walking alone, many other hikers walk around you and speaking and screaming. So I tried to walk outside the tracks to avoid to walking in queue. I guess I am not very social when I am hiking in mountains; I just want to relax and enjoy the sound of silence, waterfall and birds and watching the great view while my thoughts running through my head. I felt humble among these mountains and so quiet in my soul. When I was struggling up the last hill to Le Dent du Velan, I felt my body already start to hurt, oooups my conditions are not so good huh? Well, I had a solid lunch on the summit (bread, meat, fruit and warm tea) and watch around me in all directions. I even saw Montreux and Roche de Naye, but sadly not Mont Blanc. Cornettes du Bise was hiding it. Well, the view was absolutely wonderful, I felt in this moment I could stay here forever!

It was windy and cold so I had to thinking to return back. I choose another route down from the mountain, bbbbfffuuff, my legs and knees was hurting a lot. I guess I used same time down as up. Anyway, the trip was excellent and I have to do it more often. See photos here:
